Chason Cabin

Built in the 1820's of flat face hewn logs. The double dovetail joinery is very sophisticated. We call this cabin the Lucy Byrd Chason Cabin, but it was actually built by her grandfather, William Byrd, from Virginia. He obtained a U.S. Patent on 80 acres of land in 1820. This land is located on the west side of the Chipola River in the north central part of Calhoun County, right at the Jackson County line. After 176 years, this house is still in the family.
